Why do we get daily/hourly updates re: Rep. Giffords, but I haven't heard squat about any of the other injured?

Was she the only one shot? I heard briefly about the 9 year old girl and the judge that died but have heard nothing about any of the injured...except giffords....and what was up with her release from the hospital with like a phalanx of motorcycle cops (there must have been twenty of them) escorting her ambulance???
