Why do people have such a problem with gays?

I mean, I know it says that stuff in the Bible but where do people get the stuff about gay people being unfaithful/promiscuous and (more so with gay men) that they're pedophiles? Also that gay marriage will destroy America, gay people will ruin the army and that being gay is curable?
