What is "break-in" for a new motorcycle?

I have a ER if I remember right its change oil and filter after 1000km or 600 miles. Changing the oil at 30km just won't do much for you, its way early. Read the owners manual, it is the best source of information on this. Nice bike the ER, it is my favorite around town bike. Light nimble plenty of power.
