Is Jedi a real religion like from starwars?

My friend who is in the army, decided to put on his tags that he is a Jedi because he saw it as on the list of religion choices and thought it was a funny choice. I'd like to know if it is a real religion? Do people actually believe in the force? It sounds funny.
